Music has been around since the medieval era to present. During this time, music had purpose and was used for praise. It had a sacred nature to it and was mostly used for religious purposes. With time, music grew and added new genres such as classical music, rhythm and blues, rock music, hip hop and the list goes on. Classical music was born in the sixteenth century where the music had a basic feel of what is today known as classical music.
During the 12th century, French music lovers created a demand for secular music that inspired more music to be incorporated into the religious beat. In the early 13th century, Philippe de Vitry named the new music “Ars Nova’ which stood for New Art. The pope of that era described the music as confusing and that the basic message of the music was not clear.
In the renaissance period, music was defined and made popular by the dukes and princes of that time. Music still had a religious tone with the pope supporting it strongly. In the Baroque period, opera was born and this was the most significant advancement in the field of music. Music now moved from the church to the princely courts and the public. Artists such as Monteverdi were the first opera singers of that time. Religious music moved to south Austria in the Catholic arena and this is where Mozart, Beethoven and Hayden were born, the classical era. The emergence of opera music pushed out religious music to the side.
The classical music era first dominated in Paris, Berlin and Vienna. Famous classical artist Haydn had won an approval throughout Western Europe by the 1790-s. He made money from his twelve London symphonies. Haydn got widespread fame from his recording company Breitkopf-s publications while Mozart who chose to sing and work for a court failed to reap what was due to him.
